GREGOR BOŽIČ
Nova Gorica, Slovenia (ex-Yugoslavia)
Film director, cinematographer and researcher of Mediterranean pomology.
He studied film directing & cinematography at the AGRFT film school Ljubljana and DFFB film academy Berlin, as well as contemporary visual arts at the Le Fresnoy national studio in Lille.
His work has been showcased at numerous international film festivals, including Cannes, Toronto, Locarno, Rotterdam, Marseille, Camerimage, Goa, Tallinn, New York, Shanghai, and was honored with the the most important awards including the Palme d'or, a nomination for the Oscar academy awards, the Tiger award for best feature, the best first feature award in Tallinn, the European film academy award and many others.
Since 2008 he is conducting an ongoing research on old and endemic Mediterranean fruit varieties in which he collaborated with fruit farmers from the Italo - Slovene borderland. In 2010 he planted a gene-bank orchard and wrote a book that describes all the found varieties and the stories connected with them. His first directed feature film »Stories from the chestnut woods« premiered at the Toronto international film festival in 2019 and has screened at more than 50 international film festivals ever since.
